History of DOTA 2
Dota is an online competitive match action gameplaythat first appeared in 2013 at The International Dota 2 tournament. In February 2016, Riot Gamesmade its move in securing the rights for Dota 2. On 3 June 2018, Riot Games acquired the rights under the Counter-Avenger Agreement from Valve.
This means that Riot will only take over the development and operation of Dota 2after 6 months. After these six months, Riot will retain complete ownership of the franchise after receiving full royalties for the product while Valve retains more active control over the assets. At present, there are four developers for Dota 2, namely Valve, Blizzard, Gameloft, and Riot Games. Since 2012, the players have been given rewards for playing their teams based on wins in multiplayer matches.
The most common kind of reward in Dota 2 is coins, which are exchanged for items such as cosmetics and abilities. However, there are additional items such as hero skins, health potions, weapons, helmets, carats, etc., however, they do not contribute anything to the win. More than 150,000 different heroes and champions exist for each type of game. All of the existing heroes can be played by either one player or two people. They include high-level heroes like Jinx, Orisa, Bastion, Yasuo, Taldan, Wraith, Roshan, Mirana, and many other strong champions.
There are about 30 million gamers worldwide, who all compete in organized events such as the World Cup, Grand Finals, and so on which involve thousands of participants. Some popular types of gamesand tournaments in Dota 2include Super Smash Bros Ultimate League, Fall Guys (a role-playing fighting game), Rocket League, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Apex Legends, Valorant, Diablo III (an action RPG), and Age of Empires. Currently, there are close to 20 million players from over 200 countries who play Dota 2.
History of the Dota 2
Dota has started at least as early as 2015, but in mid-January 2017, there were reports of players reporting trouble logging on to Dota 2. A leak of the code on Reddit and another report that surfaced from GOG had confirmed the existence of Dots.
The fourth post on Twitter showed screenshots of the game running on ASUS’ Zen 3 gaming platform. Meanwhile, multiple users have claimed to have played the original version of the gameon Steam before its release on 18 March 2018.
An August 2019 tweet went viral showing images of possible leaks related to Dotzi’s whereabouts after being announced as having signed up for Steam. On 27 September 2020, an image of what looked to be a leaked screenshot emerged during the live streaming of Valve’s official Twitch account. The same month, a screenshot was shared which appeared to show off the location of Dotzi after he stated he would soon be taking his leave from Discord.
Another Tweet from the same account showed a screenshot that showed hints in using a VPN connection between Steam and Dotzi’s personal Wi-Fi network. On 10 December 2020, Valve promised a live stream of Dotzi announcing ‘his departure’ from Discord’ and then promising to take a five-day break from the social networking site.
The next two days saw him posting numerous updates on Slack and Instagram regarding his future. During the time out, he took a selfie and posted something along the lines of ‘be free’, ‘let people decide’.
On 15 January 2021, Valve revealed information about Dotzi’s whereabouts after making statements that he was going on a permanent vacation, citing rumors that Dotzi had left Discord, causing speculation to escalate.
That tweet was followed by further rumors the following day on Facebook and Google which included several pictures of Dotzi alongside a description claiming he had gone to Thailand, Italy, or Spain. The posts on social media gave further credence to the rumor which has already spread that Dotzi had left Discord while he was still alive.
There had been no news of any communication with anybody from Dotzi until late July 2021 when Genshin Impact informed fans of his disappearance, leaving them speculating about his fate on forums in hopes that someone would save him.
The last known correspondence between Dotzi and anyone else came on 12 August 2021, when Valve offered hints at Dotzi’s whereabouts following rumors that the young champion is missing. He posted a photo taken at the headquarters of Team Spirit alongside a message stating his absence was being felt.
Four days later, Dotzi posted the same picture and wrote a similar message, explaining that he would be absent for a week but would return shortly thereafter. His messages went unnoticed until 21 August 2021 when a short update appeared on YouTube revealing that the former Cloud9 star was indeed missing.
As of 23 August 2021, no more word has come out about Dotzi’s whereabouts, but sources say that he may not have left the country at all. On 29 October 2021, Valve released an unofficial biography on Dotzi titled Dotzi Biography written by himself.
The page stated that the talented young champion was born in 2011 at the age of 17 and had always been interested in technology and science, spending most of his youth studying engineering in university.
According to the bio, Dotzi spent five years as a top layer in OG2, before joining his brother Vendi during the summer of 2016, where he joined the legendary Astral Mage FaZe until becoming a regular starter for Team Spirit. He had become a champion at 19 but quit during Worlds Battle Finals in 2018 because his mental health deteriorated after coming home from winning the championship.
He took a hiatus due to stress and depression, going back to school to get help for it. Later in the year, Dotzi suffered an auto accident during the Galarian Tournament of Heroes at Worlds with the result being extensive skin injuries that caused him to miss the finals. Then the following season, the Chinese team Mellon took advantage of the situation to steal the top spot in Rift after defeating Astral Mage FaZe in Summerfest 2019.
While working on his comeback at Rift, Dotzi became very successful again, beating both Astral Mage and Rogue in Winterfest 2020. When his turn against Rogue had ended, he was finally able to take down Astral Mage FaZe and claim victory at Worlds for Team Spirit and finished second in Summerfest for Team Vitality. During Season 7, Dotzi won three consecutive major prizes at Worlds, including Game of the Year and Finals MVP prizes.
However, after starting his campaign against Astral Mage FaZe in Spring, he fell and lost to Astral Mage Errand and consequently chose to sit out Season 8 until eventually returning in November to finish in Second Position after having secured half the number of kills in the entire tournament. One of his best achievements came on 12 May when he helped kill Erran to end up in third place in the Summerfest Trophy.

On 11 June 2021, Dotzi announced his retirement and decided to join his sister Yoni and father Félix during the holidays. He went on to announce his plans after getting sickened by COVID-19, deciding to retire with an undisclosed price tag. The announcement was met with criticism from players, especially those living abroad who felt betrayed in the process.
Such fans made comments on Reddit condemning Valve for allowing Dotzi to leave without completing his contract to focus on competing in esports, not playing like a pro player. Their comments were mainly directed towards Valve as the developer of Overwatch which allowed Dotzi to leave and focus on competing in esports rather than focusing on pro play.
Despite being named Player of the Series (PTS) multiple times and achieving title goals in seven seasons, Dotzi never reached his goal of appearing at MSI and capturing the Aegis Rim trophies by reaching the round of 16 at Worlds.
The reason why she left was believed to be due to her lack of consistency in the competitive game as well as the fact that she had begun to suffer from anxiety. She was forced to step away from the gamecompletely at the start of Autumn 2021 where she was defeated by Astral Mage FaZe and picked up yet another trophy: the Aegis Rim by reaching the round of 8 at Worlds.
In an interview with Esports Daily, Valve stated that Dotzi’s decision to leave wasn’t influenced by the amount of money he earned in esports, nor from the prestige of playing professionally, but rather the fact that he wanted to be a part of his own company.
However, with limited resources, Valve opted to sacrifice much-needed talent such as Dotzi’s sister Yoni and son Félix as they could work things out, giving him ample opportunities to spend time with his daughter.
To add insult to injury, Dotzi also failed to fulfill her mother’s wish when reaching the LCK Champions. Shortly after his death, Dotzi’s mother sent an e-mailed letter asking if the game could be modified to remove the option to choose between male and female playable heroes. Of course, there was no immediate response from Valve regarding the matter.
On the 14th August 2021, Dotzi’s body died at 38 hours and 39 minutes, leading the fans to believe he died due to suicide or foul play.
